South Korea SDG Index

Overview

The United Nations officially launched their 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative in 2015.  A core aspect of this Agenda is the 17 individual Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The goals produce a map and tracking system to measure performance and accountability by all nations in the fight against the climate crisis.  A target deadline for vast improvement was set for the year 2030 and the 17 goals reflect the notion that “ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”

South Korea Sustainable Development Report SDG Index Score 2022

Overall Score: 77.9 (out of 100)

Overall Rank: 27 (out of 163)

Spillover Score (impact on other nations): 74.2

The Overall Score measures a country's total progress towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as a percentage of SDG achievement. A score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.

Each country's actions can have positive or negative effects on other countries' abilities to achieve the SDGs. The Spillover Index assesses such spillovers along three dimensions: environmental & social impacts embodied into trade, economy & finance, and security. A higher score means that a country causes more positive and fewer negative spillover effects.
